Bloomberg Professional Services

This guide provides a general introduction and "how-to" resources for using Wake Forest's Bloomberg Terminals.

Welcome to the Bloomberg Terminal

Bloomberg Professional Services provides access to it's global financial database via its terminal-bound financial services platform - known as a Bloomberg Terminal.

The Bloomberg Terminal provides analysis and quotes for equities (stocks) and indices, company and economic data for the countries of the world, real-time and historical industry and market news, and advanced analytical and data functions. It is an industry standard in the financial services and investment banking industries. Higher education terminals - including Wake Forest's terminals - do not include the trading module and market data is delayed by 15 minutes.

The Bloomberg Terminal also provides access to Bloomberg.com via the <BBG> command and Bloomberg Law using the <BLAW> command.

Location & Access

Access to Bloomberg for academic and noncommercial use by students, faculty, and staff of Wake Forest University is made possible through the Z. Smith Reynolds Library and Wake Forest School of Business. Alumni and guests are not able to access WFU terminals.

There are five physical terminals available for use by Wake Forest students, faculty, and staff:

Terminals are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Access is limited to the physical locations above and is not available remotely.

Creating a Log-In

All students, faculty, and staff must create a Bloomberg login to access the system. To create and account, go to any Bloomberg terminal on Wake's Campus(es) and follow the steps listed and/or linked below.

To Create an Account:

Step 1: When the system is logged out, press <GO> on the Bloomberg Keyboard without entering a username or password.

Step 2: Select the option to create an account.

Step 3: Follow the prompts on screen to create your account. Use your Wake Forest email address in the email field. Keep your mobile phone nearby – You will need to enter a confirmation number and can choose to receive this by text message, phone call, or email. In most cases, the text message option is the quickest. Work and mobile numbers can be the same.

Step 4: Bloomberg will verify the account with a text message/phone call before it is fully activated. This account will work on all of the Bloomberg terminals on campus.

Having trouble logging on to Bloomberg with your account?

Accounts that have been unused for more than 90 days are deactivated. When this happens, you will receive an error message stating that the login failed due to invalid credentials. You can try resetting your password or contact Bloomberg support at 212-318-2000 (US East Coast) to have your account reset.
