This guide provides a general introduction and "how-to" resources for using Wake Forest's Bloomberg Terminals.

Training & Certificates

Bloomberg offers a series of credentials that will boost your knowledge and strengthen your resume. Once you finish each program, you'll receive a certificate. 

Please note -all certificate programs mentioned on this page must be completed in-person at the Bloomberg Terminal. Wake Forest currently does not offer an option for students to complete these programs remotely for free. 

Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC)

Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) is an 8-hour, self-paced, e-learning video course consisting of four required modules: Economic Indicators, Currencies, Fixed Income, and Equities. Optional modules include Terminal BasicsCommodities, Equity Options,and Portfolio Management

Participating in BMC will help you:

  • Learn about financial markets
  • Familiarize yourself with over 70 Bloomberg terminal functions
  • Solidify your knowledge with over 100 interactive questions

Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals (BFF)

Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals (BFF) is a self-paced, interactive e-learning course comprised of four required modules: The Purpose of Investing, Types of Investments, Risk and Reward, and Portfolio Management. 

Through participation in the program, students will:

  • Learn how money flows through an economy.
  • Discover some of the investment strategies that can help individuals and businesses grow their money while navigating the varying risks associated with them.
  • Define responsible investing and its benefits to individuals, businesses, and society.
  • Explore different career paths alongside some tools and strategies to help you pursue them.

Bloomberg ESG

Bloomberg ESG is an interactive e-learning course that provides an introduction to implementing ESG strategies and reporting.

By completing this program, you will:

  • Learn to describe ESG trends and common ESG investment strategies.
  • Learn to analyze how asset managers integrate ESG considerations into their investment decision-making process
  • Understand how shareholder activism influences corporate behavior
  • Practice tasks within various stages of the investment process on the Bloomberg terminal

Bloomberg Spreadsheet Analysis

Bloomberg Spreadsheet Analysis is a self-paced course that provides foundational skills in Bloomberg Query Language (BQL) and its practical application within Excel. Through real-world scenarios, you’ll learn to filter, analyze, and aggregate financial data across macro, equities, and fixed income.

By taking Bloomberg Spreadsheet Analysis, you will:

  • Understand BQL syntax and core functionality.
  • Filter and retrieve financial data using BQL in Excel.
  • Apply BQL to macroeconomic, equity, and fixed income analysis.
  • Build a strong foundation for advanced financial research with Bloomberg data.
