Bloomberg Professional Services

This guide provides a general introduction and "how-to" resources for using Wake Forest's Bloomberg Terminals.

Bloomberg in the Classroom

As an educator you can  leverage Bloomberg  to bring the real world of business and finance into the classroom, providing students with access to the same information platform used by leading decision makers, asset managers and policy architects in business, finance  and government.

As an educator you can:

  • Unlock exclusive access for students to participate in the Global Trading Challenge, a hyper-realistic virtual investment simulation where competitors utilize the Terminal to make real-time trading decisions.
  • Connect classroom theory to real-world finance easily with access to Bloomberg's Toolkit for Professors - a robust collection of guides, activity, and assignments.
  • Access Bloomberg Case Studies which align with the most commonly used undergrad Intro to Finance textbooks and the Bloomberg Terminal.
  • Create custom Bloomberg Classes which allows you to assign courses, videos, case studies, and other Bloomberg for Education materials to your students.

Bloomberg Toolkit for Professors

After logging into Bloomberg for Education, select "Resource Center" from the menu at the top. Here you will find everything you need to get started and enrich your teaching including student assignments, lesson plans, and activities.

Bloomberg Case Studies

After logging into Bloomberg for Education, hover over "Continuous Learning" in the menu bar and select "Case Studies" from the dropdown menu.

Bloomberg Businessweek Case Studies are the result of a collaboration between the Bloomberg for Education and Bloomberg Businessweek teams. Case studies in finance are normally reserved for graduate level coursework. Bloomberg has designed these case studies to align with the most commonly used undergrad Intro to Finance textbooks and the Bloomberg Terminal. As employers and students are clamoring for more practical experience, these case studies focus on experiential learning.

Bloomberg Classes

Use classes to assign courses, videos, case studies, and other Bloomberg for Education materials to your students. When you create a class, you will be given a 10 digit code that you can share with your students. Once your students add the class code to their profile, you can track their progress and scores.

1. After logging into Bloomberg for Education, visit the "classes" tab and select "Create Class"

2. Add in class details including class name and class deadline (when you no longer want to collect information on student activity in Bloomberg). Assign any (or none) of Bloomberg Certificate programs such as BMC, Videos, and/or Case studies by toggling the "required" button to the right of each item and selecting "next" at the bottom of the screen. Click submit. (You can always go back and add or delete content later)

3. Note the class code and share with students. Instruct them to visit one of Wake's four Bloomberg Terminals in the Business Information Commons (FH 251-E). Students will need to register/log-in to the terminal using their Wake email. Instruct them to use the function BCER <GO> and log-in to Bloomberg for Education on the terminal. Have them enter the class code when prompted.

Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge

Bloomberg's Global Trading Challenge is an annual event where teams of 3-5 students (led by a faculty advisor) will compete against other top students around the world to experience firsthand what real-world investing looks and feels like. Teams will use the Terminal to define market assumptions, develop a return-generating strategy, and execute trades within a closed network. The winning team will have the highest time weighted relative return, relative to the Bloomberg World Large, Mid & Small Cap Price Return Index (WLS Index). Learn more and get all the detail on the timeline for the next challenge by visiting Bloomberg for Education and selecting "Trading Challenge" from the menu.
