As explained earlier, the ZSR Library seldom orders duplicate copies of titles already held in the collection. There are exceptions to this rule, however. The most common exceptions are AC, AE and AV orders.
Flagging these as "added" is for Cataloging to know that they are added to a bibliographic record that is already in our catalog (the Voyager database).
AC
AC stands for Added Copy. An added copy is a duplicate copy of a title already included in the ZSR Library. An AC may be ordered for the following reasons:
AE
AE stands for Added Edition. Added Editions are best described by the old advertising phrase "New and Improved." Academic texts are frequently revised and updated to include new data. Classic works of fiction may be reissued by a new publisher with a new introduction, commentary or preface. An AE is not a reprint. A reprint is an exact duplication of the original text, with no changes except possibly binding. For example, an order slip might say "paperback reprint of 1976 edition." That means this title is an exact copy of the 1976 text, now published in a paper binding. By contrast, an AE order might say "1976 text plus a new forward by the author." That means this title contains new material not included in the 1976 edition.
AV
AV stands for Added Volume. An Added Volume is a title that is part of multi-volume set. While searching the online catalog you may discover that a title that has been requested is actually volume 6 of a twelve volume set. Or perhaps the order slip says plainly that this item is volume 6. If you suspect you are working with an AV order, take the order immediately to a staff member. AV orders should be handled by full-time staff only.
