Industry Research: Industry Profiles

A guide to finding information about industries such as industry profiles, articles about industries and industry statistics.

Industry Background

Use these databases to gather more in-depth information about the industry in which you're interested.

Databases

IBISWorld: Comprehensive industry profiles covering about 700 different U.S. industries.  IBISWorld uses the federal government's North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) to classify the industries it covers.  To find an industry profile, you can browse through the 700+ NAICS codes or you can use the IBISWorld search function to identify an industry by keyword, company name or a specific code.

Marketline: Industry profiles for many industries in the U.S. and many foreign countries.  Reports are updated annually.  You can browse a list of industries or use the search box to search for an industry by keyword.  Because Marketline is international in scope, you will usually find profiles of industries in a number of countries or regions of the world.

Euromonitor Passport: Use the "Industries" tab to browse reports for major, consumer-oriented industries. Includes reports for industries in foreign countries.

Value Line: One-page overviews of industries in about 100 categories.  All industry overviews are updated on a quarterly basis.
