ZSR Student Assistant Orientation Guide: Policies & Guidelines

This employee training guide is for Z. Smith Reynolds Library student assistants.

Policies & Guidelines

Dress Code

  • Please come to work dressed comfortably and appropriately.  You are representing the ZSR Library as well as Wake Forest University when you are working, so please dress accordingly.
  •  Please talk to your supervisor for more information regarding this policy.

  • While on duty at a public service desk or in the public areas, all student assistants should wear student assistant badges provided by your supervisor.  This is so that patrons will be able to tell the difference between you and a student that does not work in the building.

Food and Beverage Policy

  • Although the Library has an open food and drink policy for library users, while you are at work there is to be no food at your work station.
  • If you must eat during your shift, you may take a break and eat away from your work space.
  • You may have a drink, but it must be contained in a closed container.  No open containers are allowed at work stations.

Printing Rules for Library Student Assistants

  • Every WFU student gets an allotment for printing and then has to pay for more; library student assistant workers do not get to print for free while working in the library.

Punctuality and Attendance

  • Each department requires that you be on time for your shifts.  These are shifts that you have agreed to work.
  • If you are unable to make a shift or are going to be late, please let your supervisor know.  Also, please abide by department policies on acquiring a substitute for your shift.
  • If you are having problems with a shift, please talk to your supervisor immediately.

Staff Lounge Policy

  • ZSR Student Assistants may use the Staff Lounge to heat food and eat when working a shift of more than 4 hours.
  • The lounge is located on the third floor of the Reynolds Wing at the top of stairs located across from the Circulation desk, through the door on your left
  • No students may use the Staff Lounge as a place to study or "hang out."
